In this story, the family next door has just moved away. Max wonders who will be moving in. He explains to Charlie that they could be from anywhere... even from another country.
While watching the news later, after supper, a story about "Illegal Boarder Crossings" and "Illegal Aliens" is all it takes for Charlie's imagination to go into high gear as he ponders the possibility of the new neighbours being "Alien Invaders from Outer Space".
Once the Aliens find out that Charlie knows their secret, they try to beam him up to their spaceship for some experiments...
Max wakes up in the morning feeling sore in his legs. After breakfast, Charlie and Max go out for a little roller blading. Max falls down and rips out the knees on his favourite pants. When he goes home to get another pair on he discovers they don't quite fit. His Mom explains that he's been going through a growth spurt.
When Charlie overhears Max's Dad joking about it being due to radiation, Charlie's imagination takes over and Max continues to grow... and grow... and grow! Turning into The Amazing Colossal Max!
Max has a ton of work that he has to do: homework from school, clean up his room, yard work, cleaning up the dinner dishes... whew! And to top it all off, Hallowe'en is coming up and he has to make his costume. Max decides to make a robot costume out of old cardboard boxes.
When Max tells Charlie about how great it would be to have a real robot around the house to do all his chores, Charlie's imagination goes into overdrive again. He imagines a robot that does all of the chores but then decides to take over the world... and get all his robot buddies to come and visit!
Will Mankind ever survive??!
Max and his family are up at their cottage in the summer. Max sees his parents drinking coffee in the morning. When he asks if he can have some too, his Mom tells him he's too young to drink coffee.
His Dad casually makes a comment about the price of coffee beans going up on the stock market and how the "Pirates of Wall Street" are responsible.
Charlie overhears this and later while he and Max are playing out on a raft, Charlie imagines the Pirates are after them and their priceless treasure of coffee beans!
