This scene is a cross dissolve from scene 1. It takes us from the establishing shot into the first introduction to the primary character, Dr. Fritz.

It acts as a transition from the outside to the inside of the castle. It also allows Dr. Fritz to comment about the weather. If we cut directly to scene 3 the comment would not seem as strong. The line is necessary for two reasons, 1) It is a parody line that relates to the original Frankenstein movie, and 2) it sets up the premise for Fritz to send Igor up to the roof.

The scene would be set up with a background of the inside of the castle, the character on the next level, an overlay of the upper part of the brick wall, an overlay of the bricks along the bottom to cover the character’s lower body (this eliminates the need for the matchline), the doors are on the top level.

The character, bottom level of bricks and doors would shift as the doors open.
