			This was the first drawing that I did, simply as an exercise in a new design direction. Every so often I’ll do this just to stretch my own artistic boundaries. I remember I had just finished watching the original Frankenstein movie and then watching Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein. The image just popped into my head, character designs and all. It wasn’t until about a week later that the story idea came, rather than having them creating a real monster, I’d make it a spoof of the title of the book “The Illusion of Life”. So Dr. Fritz is actually creating an animated cartoon and bringing it to life by flipping the two drawings. This shot is known as a secondary establishing shot. It shows the environment that the characters will be acting in.
