Storyboard Scene 8
Scene 8 panel 1:
Fritz: “Power, I need more power!!”
This is called an oblique angle shot. I think the name should be officially changed to “Batman Badguy Hideout shot”. I know it’s longer but it always reminds me of the 1960’s Adam West / Burt Ward Batman series. Every time you went to a badguy’s hideout, like Catwoman (Julie Newmar is soooo sexy) or the Riddler or Joker’s the camera would always be on an angle. It made the hideout look very weird.

As a kid, I’d always wondered what would happen if all the badguys wore roller skates, How would they ever stop from rolling down and hitting the wall??

Anyway, This shot is at an angle to make it look weird and slightly dramatic. That’s it.

The Idea of having lots of special effects always intrigues me. All the extra drawing doesn’t. I worked on Rock and Rule as a special effects animator doing shadows on characters, drop shadows under the characters, cars, the Mok house blimp, water, electricity, etc., etc. It was a lot of fun. I’d get conscripted to do the effects work when it began to pile up for the regular crew. As things settled down I switched back to the Assistant Animation position on character animation.

This film has lots of special effects in it, mostly shadows and highlights. These are treated as a separate level and are actually drawn on a separate sheet of paper. Special effects fall under two categories: over exposure and under exposure. Light is an over exposure, glows, electricity, highlights. Shadows are an under exposure, rain, water, smoke, etc.
