Fritz: “Bwaa haaa ha haaaa!”
When I came up with this idea originally, I remember I was lying in bed, I had just woken up. On our windows we had lace sheers that were made up of a pattern of roses and leaves. As I opened my eyes, trying to wake up... (or was it trying to fall back to sleep?) I was looking at the sheers and right there was an image of Igor’s head. I looked intently at the pattern and tried to burn it into my memory. I ran down to my basement studio and pulled out some paper and drew the image of his head. I then added his body, arms and legs then set it aside. Later that day the image of scene 3 came to me after I had watched the original Frankenstein and then right after that, Young Frankenstein.
The Dr. Fritz design came at the same time I did the layout for scene 3.
Now I remember why I did the gums like that, it was a character from the Krisfaluci / Bakshi Mighty Mouse cartoons. He was the owner of a burger place that used mice instead of cow meat... anyway the character had a really neat mouth that was treated as a separate level in the animation. When the character got mad, this separate mouth level would just rotate on his head and then he’d show this huge amount of gums as he yelled and spewed out Cheerios, (at least that’s what I thought they were). I thought the design of his mouth was genius, so I created a variation on it when I designed Dr. Fritz.
