| Scene 5 panel 1: Fritz: Igor, to my side! Igor: No need to yell, Im right here master. |

| Again, here with this scene I decided to go with the flat background for the sole purpose of it looked cool. I liked the idea of the spotlight around the characters to highlight the emotion of the scene. Youll also notice that I placed Igor on the right side of the screen while in scene 3 he was on the left. Is this bad character placement? Forgetful thinking? A crossed axis line? All of the above? Actually, when I did the illustration for scene 3, I was just placing Fritz and Igor in the shot for character relationships and not story continuity. I got lazy and never bothered to redo the characters as I had placed them all on the same sheet of paper. It would have taken too long to redo the storyboard panel so I choose to just leave it till later when I actually animated the scene. In reality, Igor is not in scene 3 at all, he just appears behind Dr Fritz in this scene. One of those mysterious guys who just pops in from nowhere. Hey, its a short film... you dont have to explain everything yknow! Sheesh. If youve ever had the pleasure of seeing the John Krisfalusi / Ralf Bakshi Mighty Mouse cartoons from the early 1990s, youll see an awful lot of this happening. Go back and view the old 1940s Bob Clampett Warner cartoons and youll see the same wonderful jump cuts and characters popping in from nowhere all over the place. Standard film making rules say it shouldnt work but for some reason it does. Its amazing! |
