| Scene 9 panel 1: Igor bursts through the door on the roof top. |

| These next 4 scenes have rain effects in them. A simple rain effect can be a 3 drawing cycle of multiple raindrops falling or it can be a double exposure of a live action rain effect superimposed over top of the animation to create a very realistic looking rainstorm. I chose the simple version but used more than just 3 drawing cycles. The fact that Igor suddenly has a kite in his hand is not a real problem because I have scene 8 showing Fritz at his machine to allow Igor enough time between scene 7 and 9 to grab the kite just before he comes through the door. It was probably hanging on the wall just inside the door for just such an occasion as this. If I had cut from scene 7 directly to scene 9, it would not have been as plausible. All this to say: you dont need to show your characters doing everything. If you have the opportunity to cut real time out of your film then do so. If you had a film in which a character must walk up a mountain to a castle at the top, you wouldnt spend 30 minutes showing the character real time walking, youd have a scene of the character at the base of the mountain beginning the journey, (being sure to also show the castle in the shot to establish the goal or ultimate destination), then cross dissolve (to show the passage of time) to the castle door as the character walks up and opens or knocks on it. The total time for these two shots could be as little as the time it took for you to read this paragraph, maybe shorter. This would save a heck of a lot of animation and boring screen time, yes indeedy. |
